I'm new to this forum and I think my question will probably be an easy one for those familiar with the gen V 454. I've seen where many have said this engine isn't worth building for performance but I don't want it to be a dragster. The casting number on the block is 10114182. It was pulled from a 1991 RV

Gen V 454-Stock vs Rebuild After pulling from a local wrecking yard, the Gen-V 454 was equipped with a 750 carb, Speed Master, dual-plane intake and long-tube headers. Run in stock trim, the 454 produced 334 hp and 448 lb-ft of torque. After a rebuild that included .030-over pistons, a healthy (but streetable) Comp XE268H cam and a valve job on. George (kettbo) and others have been a lot of help. My situation is a little different however because it is a Gen 5 BBC. I will tell you what I got. 1966 Chevelle Malibu pre clone SS. Engine Build: Turbocharged Gen V 454 cid Big Block Chevy. Joshua Gomez hot rodded this 454 cid Gen V big block Chevy to the tune of 1,800 horsepower. Growing up in California and Nevada, Joshua Gomez was surrounded by hot rodding since birth. Essentially raised on race tracks, Gomez built his first engine at just 16 years old - a 406 cid. Minor changes to accommodate a one-piece rear main seal and hydraulic roller lifters occurred with the advent of the Gen V and later the Gen VI engines in the 1990s. Even with Gen V/VI revisions, the 454's displacement remained constant for decades until GM radically changed the big-block, pushing a production heavy-duty truck engine up to 8. Just built a gen IV 454 and got 617 HP. Went 30 over. Surprisingly, the 454 laid down an impressive 330 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. Naturally, the truck-based 454s were tuned for torque, so having nearly 500 pound-feet wasn't a big. With the Gen VI, Chevy put the mechanical fuel pump boss BACK on the 454/427 blocks, but continues to omit it on the 502s. Additionally, the Gen VI block is machined for the use of the magical factory hydraulic roller-lifter cam. I built an identical replacement Mark IV for it, the only difference was that it had large oval port heads instead of peanut ports, even with a peanut port intake it had.

Two further evolutions of the pickup truck 454 big block were waiting for Chevrolet and GMC fans. The first was the Generation V motor, which in 1991 transitioned to four-bolt mains across the board (even the L19 had offered the availability of two-bolt main design), as well as a hydraulic roller cam and a stronger block and cylinder case design Chevrolet introduced its first big-block Chevy engine in 1965, and since then it has undergone a number of evolutionary changes.
